New Year, New Possibilities

Monday, January 02, 2017

“'Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.’” (Isaiah 43: 18-19)

2017: a brand new year, filled with brand new possibilities, memories, dreams, desires, achievements, and opportunities. Already, God is doing a new thing. He has great and unperceivable things planned for each and every person.

Whatever hurts you may be clinging to, 2017 is a year to let go and run abandonedly to the only One who can completely heal your wounds and give you true life in this wasteland. God wants to do a new thing within you, but first, He desires you not to dwell on the past, but instead, look forward to future possibilities with Him. If you let Him, God is able to take your pain and turn it into something more beautiful than you could ever imagine.

Whatever hope you’ve lost, 2017 is a year to fully embrace the hope that Christ personifies. In this life, it’s easy to lose heart, but all throughout the story of the Bible, the message of hope resonates and shouts for our attention. With Christ, there is no such thing as lost hope. If you feel like giving up, just remember that God will never give up on you.

Whatever mistakes you’ve made, 2017 is a year to seize the forgiveness and grace that God so freely lavishes upon those who accept it. If you are in Jesus, the Bible tells us that you are a new creation: the old you has died with Christ, and the new you is being brought to life in Him (2 Corinthians 5:17). Once you accept the forgiveness of God, you no longer have to be ashamed, but can instead step out into the light and life of Christ.

Whether 2016 was a year full of joy, sorrow, or everything in between, God is making something new. We may not always like what God places or allows into our lives, but because of His unfailing love, we can have confidence in knowing that everything He does is good. Wherever you may be with God, it’s time to draw nearer to Him and fall more in love with Him. Don’t put Him off another day.

Start this year fresh with a rededication to God or perhaps a brand new, real relationship with Him.

Allow the Lord to shape your year into one that is fully committed and devoted to Him, because being with Him is the best place you will ever be.

Lord, thank You for a brand new year with brand new possibilities! I’m excited to see all that You are going to do this year. Father, as I make goals and resolutions for the new year, I ask that You would give me the discipline and perseverance to follow through on them. Remind me that I cannot change myself or make myself a better person, but that I need Your Holy Spirit to work within me. Thank you for the new things You have planned for this year. Help me to follow hard after You and fall more in love with You every single day.

What goals/resolutions can you make for 2017 to help you draw closer to God?
How can you accomplish these goals?
Who do you want to be in 2017 that you haven’t been in years past?
Goals are hard, so I would strongly encourage you to find a trusted accountability partner who will help you grow.
